This was the first of a three-game, home-away-home series over a 16-day span, Adelino “Billy” Gonsalves scoring in all three matches as Stix, Baer & Fuller of St. Louis won the National Challenege Cup (U.S. Open Cup) against the Pawtucket Rangers.
Goals: Nilsen, Gonsalves, McNab, Flavin; McAuley (PK), McIntyre.
The game was tied, 1-1, after 90 minutes, McNab (8’) and McAuley scoring first-half goals. Gonsalves gave Stix a 2-1 lead, then McIntyre equalized. In the last five minutes, Nilsen converted a cross from McNab and Flavin scored the final goal with Controy screened. Four St. Louis players (Gonsalves, McNab, Scotty Nilsen, Billy Watson) had played for Fall River. Six players from this series would go on to play for the U.S. in the 1934 World Cup in Italy.
