Fall River’s Freddy Wall scored nearly a goal game in the ASL, spending much of his professional career playing outside New England. In 1927, Wall performed for Galicia SC, the International League champions, and was in the starting lineup for a 1-1 draw with Real Madrid on Sept. 24, 1927. Wall, a Fall River, Mass., native, began his career with the Marksmen in 1924. Wall played for Lusitania Recreation in East Cambridge in 1926. Wall totaled 22 goals in 25 games, seventh in the ASL in 1927, competing for the Newark Skeeters and Philadelphia. In this game against Bohemians, Wall scored four times and U.S. national team forward William Findlay added one goal. Goals: F. Wall 4, Findlay; Kerr.

Soccer night games go back to 1923, General Electric’s team showing the way, according to The Boston Globe. Bert Patenaude scored twice and Alex McNab once as the Marksmen took a 3-0 lead, Johnny Nelson cutting the deficit to 3-1 at halftime. Leonard hit the bar twice in the second half, then Nelson scored off a Carlson pass and set up Carlson for the equalizer.
