In a 1990 interview, Arnie Oliver (New Bedford, Mass.) recalled having scored the deciding goal in a U.S. 4-3 victory over Santos FC, only for next day newspaper accounts to report the score as a draw. Bert Patenaude had eight goals disallowed during the U.S. tour of South America pre- and post-1930 World Cup.

Aug. 9, 1968 – Boston Beacons 2:2 New York Generals, Fenway Park

Substitute Ivica “John” Liposinovic’s 88th-minute deflected shot equalized for the Beacons, who rallied from a 2-0 deficit playing at a numerical disadvantage after the ejection of Billy Fraser. Ethiopian forward Yilma Ketema missed a penalty kick for the Beacons, who “gave an exhibition on how not to score goals.” (Peter Gammons/The Boston Globe).
