Fall River FC wins first of four U.S. Open Cup titles. Fall River also won double – ASL championship (virtually clinching the title with six games remaining in the season on April 6, 1924) and U.S. Open Cup. Fall River Marksmen’s Dave McEachran opened the scoring with the first of his two goals, then Alex “Dynamite” Lorimer converted an Olimpico (“scored directly from a flag kick”), and Paterson gave the New Bedford Whalers a 2-1 halftime lead. McEachran equalized in the 49th minute, then Billy Gibson surrendered an own goal as Wilson “lobbed in a shot.”

Fore River FC earned an upset victory over the Boston Wonder Workers in the U.S. Open Cup, thanks to two Dundas goals and one by Gowdy. Unable to find a first name for Dundas, who often appears as a center forward in game stories and lineups. In a 1931 Boston Globe story, center forward  Jack Dundas is mentioned as being recruited by Lusitania Recreation. Fitch scored the opening goal for the “new Boston Rovers Foot Ball Club, which was organized in this city a few months ago to play under the old association rules, which are so popular in England,” according to The Boston Globe. Edmund Smith opened the scoring in the second half as Shawsheen Indians continued their path to the 1925 U.S. Open Cup championship. Smith played for Arboath FC in Scotland, then joined Shawsheen and Bethlehem Steel, earning a cap for the U.S. national team in 1926. Smith resided in Andover, Mass., for most of his life.
