The Fall River Rovers handed the Free Wanderers their first home defeat and went on to win the American FA Cup for the second successive year. The Rovers outscored foes, 24-1, in winning five successive games in the tournament. The Rovers had a 9-0-0 record (41-4 goal differential) in the 1888 and ’89 events.
