The Boston Soccer Social Club announced a dance at Sir Walter Scott Hall, Caledonian Building (corner of Appleton and Berkeley streets). The Boston Soccer Social Club was comprised of Boston SC Wonder Workers supporters.
“Tom Wood, Jimmy Downie, James Garvie and their associates expect a real old-fashioned soccer night,” according to The Boston Globe.
Jan. 1, 1925 – Boston SC 0:1 Brooklyn Wanderers FC at Walpole St. Grounds
Boston SC, which had joined the American Soccer League for the 1924-25 season, sustained its first home defeat. Billy Hogg (ex-Dundee FC, Dundee United) scored as the Wanderers extended their winning streak to five games and Barney Battles’ last-minute attempt to equalize was “nipped … off his toe” by Jock Marshall.
Boston began its existence with a 14-game (13-0-1) home unbeaten streak from Sept. 13, 1924 through New Year’s Day.
Brooklyn, in the midst of a nine-game (8-0-1) unbeaten streak, finished in third place with 52 points. The Wonder Workers (51 points) finished fourth place and won both the Lewis Cup and U.S. Professional Cup.
