The Pawtucket (R.I.) Rangers, who had blanked Boston by a score of 5-0 on Jan. 14, 1933, reached the semifinals of the 1933 National Cup (U.S. Open Cup). The Rangers lost in the finals of the 1934, ’35 and 1942 U.S. Open Cup and won the 1941 tournament. Goals: McMillan 2 (PKs), Tommy Ritchie, Willie Ballantyne, Charley O’Hare; Bob McIntyre, Tommy Florie. Ejected: Harry Burness; Walter Dick.

Jan. 15, 1998 – Walter Zenga announces retirement
Zenga returned to the Revolution as interim coach late in the 1998 season, then became player/coach for the 1999 season. Zenga, now coaching Venezia in Italy’s Serie A, made 473 appearances for Inter and earned 58 caps for Italy. Zenga played his last game for the Italian national team in a 2-0 victory over Ireland at Foxboro Stadium on June 4, 1992. He made 49 starts for the Revolution in the 1997 and ’99 seasons.
