Klemm and Chadwick scored for New Bedford FC against the “West Philadelphians” in the U.S. Open Cup. “New Bedford soccer eleven sent more than 1,000 enthusiasts wild with joy … The game was contested in rain which fell throughout, the playing surface being covered in slimy mud,” according to The Boston Globe.
New Bedford advanced to the semifinals, losing Brooklyn Field Club, which went on to become the first U.S. Open Cup champion.
