The Boston team was set to play in the National Professional Soccer League (NPSL), which was not sanctioned by the USSFA, at Fenway Park. Directors included former Celtics’ coach Red Auerbach and Red Sox executive vice president Dick O’Connell. The NASL had earlier awarded a franchise to the Boston area, the team controlled by Boston Bruins/Boston Garden chairman of the board Weston Adams.
