Eusebio scored twice for Benfica against Sporting in a rematch of the Taça de Portugal in a Sunday afternoon exhibition. Marinho’s penalty kick opened the scoring (6^’). Eusebio equalized (43^’) and broke the deadlock (80^’), then Fernando Peres converted (84^’).

Benfica had won the Liga Portuguesa, reached the semifinals (against Ajax) of the Champions Cup and defeated Sporting (2-1, on a 118^th-minute Eusebio goal) for the Taça de Portugal on June 4, 1972.
