Fall River FC wins first of four U.S. Open Cup titles. Fall River also won double – ASL championship (virtually clinching the title with six games remaining in the season on April 6, 1924) and U.S. Open Cup. The Boston Globe account of the game listed a crowd of 15,000. Goals: Tom Harris (PK), Joe McCarthy; Fred Morley 2, Johnny Reid, Harold Brittan.
The Marksmen returned by train, greeted by a “raging snowstorm” and a “rousing reception” in Fall River, Mass., on April 2, 1924. “Despite the raging snowstorm … was accorded a rousing reception when it arrived home tonight, thousands of fans besieging the local railroad station and lining the streets.” (Boston Globe)

The Marksmen won the first leg, on the way to capturing their third U.S. Open Cup title. Their opponents were also called Cleveland Bruell Hungarians and/or Bruell Insurance. The Fall River lineup included three of the top four all-time U.S. Open Cup scorers: Billy Gonsalves (14), Werner “Scotty” Nilsen (11) and Jimmy McAuley (6). Bert Patenaude, third with eight career goals, played in the return leg, a 2-1 Fall River win over Bruell on April 6, 1930. Goals: McAuley (3), McNab, Nilsen (3); Wilson (2 – 1 PK)
