Supporters arrived in numbers for a U.S. Open Cup quarterfinal match at the Fore River Shipyard field in Quincy, Mass.: “The largest crowd that ever attended a soccer game in this part of the State …” But Fore River, a finalist in the 1920 U.S. Open Cup, fell to Brooklyn’s Robins Dry Dock, which went on to win the 1921 title. Fore River struggled against Robins’ front line – Hosie, Sweeney, center forward Ratican, McGuire, McKenna. Hosie (“brilliant drive from the 18-yard line …”), Ratican and Sweeney scored. According to The Boston Globe: “The gathering of fans was the largest of the year, showing that soccer can be made to pay here by getting the proper teams.”
