John Kerry scored three goals, Jack Griswold two and captain Joe Upton one in Jack Marshall’s final game as Bulldog coach. Kerry scored his first goal in the 16th minute.
The Boston Globe account: “An unheralded right wing, John Kerry, blasted three goals … in the finest performance of the year for the Elis,” who defeated the Crimson for the first time since 1956 and clinched second place behind Brown in the Ivy League standings.
Kerry had played soccer in boarding school in Switzerland and at St. Paul’s School in Concord, N.H.
Kerry continued to follow the game and supported the Revolution, often attending their games against D.C. United at RFK Stadium while serving in the U.S. Senate.
Nov. 22, 1963 – Yale 2:3 Harvard
Game played on day of John F. Kennedy assassination. Christian Ohiri scored twice in his final game for Harvard. John Kerry was a sophomore on the Yale team.
