Thierry Henry avoided Gillette Stadium’s synthetic surface until the final game of his five-year MLS stay. Henry, who scored three goals in six games against the Revolution at Red Bull Arena, nearly provided what could have been a deciding assist, Tim Cahill volleying high off his cross. After the game, Henry limited his media remarks to a one-liner congratulating the Revolution.
Charlie Davies made the difference for the Revolution with the team’s first multiple-goal performance in home playoff game. Davies (41’, 70’) countered goals by Cahill (26’) and Peguy Luyindula (53’), upping his playoff total to a Revolution post-season record four goals. Jermaine Jones’ inspired run for an 86th-minute score made the difference in the away leg, a 2-1 Revolution win over the Red Bulls on Nov. 23, 2014.
The result qualified the Revolution for their fifth appearance in the MLS Cup final.
