Oct. 12, 1939 – Billy Gonsalves, “rated the Babe Ruth of soccer in this country and one of the most popular players ever developed in New England, will be a fixture with the Worcester Swedish Americans (ASL New England Division) … Lucy Recs management tried hard to get Gonsalves but the Swedes beat them to it.” Gonsalves later listed with Pawtucket, but does not play in Cup competition and then gets a “release” from Pawtucket to sign with a Chicago team on Dec. 1, 1939.
