Oct. 14, 2015 – Juan Carlos Osorio named Mexico national team manager

Post by

Osorio competed at high levels in Colombia and Brazil before moving to the U.S. in the early 1980s, then playing for the University of New Haven and Southern Connecticut State. Osorio scored four goals and was named all-NECC and all-New England as New Haven compiled an 11W-7L-1D record in 1985.

Osorio coached the New York Vipers before becoming assistant coach with the NY/NJ MetroStars and Manchester City, then guiding the Chicago Fire and New York Red Bulls in MLS and taking Once Caldas and Atletico Nacional to Colombian championships.

University of New Haven (John Kowalski, Joe Machnik, Nick Sakewiecz, Adrian Serioux, Roberto Taylor, et al.) and Southern Connecticut (Kevin Anderson, John Ball, Brian Bliss, Shawn Boney, Chris da Silva, Ancil Farrier, Thomas Gardiner, Chris Hauser, Gilbert Jean-Baptiste, Bonaventure Maruti, Olivier Occean, Andrew Olivieri, Bo Oshoniyi, Paul Oyuga, Mike Petke, Alejandro Rincon, Jordan Russolillo, the Revolution’s John DeBrito and Carlos Rocha, et al.) have produced several professional team/U.S. national team administrators, coaches and players.

Osorio is not New England’s first connection to the Mexican national team. Current Federacion Mexicana de Fútbol (FMF) general secretary Guillermo Cantú went from Lawrence Academy to a career with Atlante, Atletico Celaya and Leon, playing for Mexico (four caps), then becoming the national team administrator from 2004-09.
