Post by

Taylor Twellman’s 35th-minute goal made the difference as the Revolution concluded their best regular season with a 17W-7L-8D (59 points) record. The Revolution spent the preseason in Bermuda and Ecuador, and started strong, setting a season-opening team record with an 11-game (7-0-4) unbeaten streak. The addition of Michael Parkhurst allowed Steve Nicol to transform the Revolution’s alignment to a 3-5-2, kick starting the team’s run to three successive MLS Cup finals and a 2007 U.S. Open Cup title. Against the Fire, the Revolution went 3W-1L-0D during the regular season; were eliminated in the fourth round of the U.S. Open Cup; then won, 1-0, in the Eastern Conference final, qualifying for their second MLS Cup final appearance.

Said Twellman, who totaled 17 goals in 25 games, but went scoreless in the post-season: “At the end of the day, if we don’t win the championship, [the scoring title] doesn’t mean anything. In the playoffs, we are starting over and everyone will be gunning for us.” Chris Aduama photo
