March 13, 1966 – Hubert Vogelsinger named Yale coach, succeeding Jack Marshall
Hubert Vogelsinger played for Allentsteig in Austria, then Newton SC, Boston Metros and Connecticut Wildcats. Vogelsinger coached the Middlesex School and assisted at Boston College and Brandeis, and was a placekicker for the Montreal Alouettes. The Vogelsinger Academy was established in 1965, and Vogelsinger went on to coach the Boston Minutemen from 1974-76. Jan. 23, 1974 – Connecticut Wildcats (ASL) sell leading scorer Ben Brewster to Boston Minutemen (NASL)
Ben Brewster totaled 11 goals in 14 games and appeared set for a career with the Connecticut Wildcats. Brewster had converted for the Wildcats in a 1-0 win over the Boston Astros on Aug. 22, 1973 and for the U.S. in a 1-0 win over Bermuda on Sept. 9, 1973. Both games were played at Hartford’s Dillon Stadium, and Brewster said he gained greater satisfaction scoring against the Astros (before a 10,093 crowd) than against Bermuda (4,200 attendance). Brewster also played for the Rhode Island Oceaneers and Boston Tea Men, and coached Boston College from 1977-87.

Harvard went on a strong run from 1969-71, advancing to two NCAA semifinal games. Goalkeeper Shep Messing, who had played at Nassau Community College and NYU, joined the Crimson from 1970-71. Eusebio da Silva Ferreira emerged on the international scene as Benfica won the 1961 and ’62 Champions Cup. Eusebio, born in Lourenço Marques (Maputo), Mozambique, won the Ballon D’Or as Europe’s top player in 1965 and led Portugal to a third-place finish in the 1966 World Cup.
